VapeWorld Outreach: Gardening for Wildlife

Part of VapeWorld's goal is to give back to the community. It's an important part of our organization and we feel passionate about the donations we are able to make to charities. Each month, we will share one of these charities with you and give you the information needed to make your own donations. These are all great causes, many of them brought to us by our own employees, and we encourage you to look into them as well.

This month, we are excited to feature the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). They do amazing work in protecting wildlife and inspiring others and future generations to do the same. Some of NWF's efforts include protecting endangered species, educating and advocating for conservation, stopping the spread of invasive species, protecting wildlife from climate change, and much more.

Providing food, shelter, and water for wildlife such as birds and pollinators is one of the best things that you can do for the animals that we share our home with. Here are some of our tips to provide a happy space for your critters!

  • Create native habitats in your area. Find vegetation that attracts birds and insects such as hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies.

    • Butterflies prefer areas that are red, orange, yellow, pink, or purple in color.
    • Bees prefer blues, purples, and yellows.
    • Creating multiple areas helps butterflies to find them easier.

  • Provide a bird bath or a pond so that wildlife have access to fresh water.
  • Create cover for birds and bats by making them a house.

    • A house provides shelter from predators and people, and also provides a place for them to raise their young.

  • Hang bird feeders in your yard.

    • Provide small pieces of fresh cut fruits and berries, nuts or nectar.

  • Provide a resting place for butterflies by placing flat rocks in spaces that get a lot of sun.
  • Don't use any chemicals or pesticides on your yard. The butterflies, birds and other animals that eat the insects will thank you!

These are all small steps that anyone can do if you just have a little bit of space outside for a small garden, some trees, or even a small apartment balcony.
